Position Summary/Objective:

Retrieve and organize data to provide analysis and recommendations to departments including Purchasing, Program Management, Quality, Manufacturing and Accounting. The Purchasing Analyst will support production and purchasing functions to ensure product is ordered and shipped on-time to meet production needs and customer expectation. In addition, this position will be required to use analytical tools and resources to identify problems and use corrective action to maximize internal and external efficiency. On a daily basis, the Purchasing Analyst will be responsible for ensuring adequate raw materials are on hand at Muth Company to meet customer requirements while meeting both inventory turn targets and minimizing the costs of expediting raw material. Longer term objectives of the position are to evaluate suppliers on key criteria; pricing, delivery timelines, quality, and responsiveness. The Purchasing Analyst is required to support the achievement of cost reduction targets expected in the automotive industry (~3% annually) by, tracking program volume recommending reductions based on volume attainment, as well as working collaboratively with the logistics team to optimize delivery costs. The Purchasing Analyst should develop expertise in purchasing procedures and processes in order to pursue improvements and efficiency gains in the department, while demonstrating professionalism and leadership in interpersonal relationships with coworkers and suppliers. The Purchasing Analyst must have strong communication and computer skills (Excel) as well as the capability to learn and master our cloud-based PLEX MRP software.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Work with manufacturing to achieve 100% on time delivery to our customers
  • Prepare, review, and evaluate RFQ documents
  • Maintain supplier relationships and analyze performance
  • Compile raw inventory data via pivot tables to identify inventory trends
  • Prepare statistical analysis of inventory turns, customer demand, forecasts, historical purchases and usage by vendor.
  • Track and forecast department progress towards inventory goals
  • Identify needs and required material specifications to support Muth manufacturing team
  • Execute the global commodity strategies as developed by the Purchasing Manager
  • Identify and track cost reductions
  • Maximize the utilization of digital tools throughout the procurement process
  • Support the Quality team in the PPAP process and the ongoing quality needs
  • Enhance understanding and expertise in automotive and IATF requirements including internal procedures, forms, and work instructions
  • Understand and improve purchasing related processes, strategies, and methods for efficiency gains
  • Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and communication skills in department, inter-department, and supplier meetings

Education, and/or Experience:

  • 1-2 years experience in purchasing
  • Bachelor’s degree in related field preferred
  • Detail oriented
  • Experience with Excel pivot tables and other analysis tools
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast paced environment
  • Self-motivated team player able to work with little supervision
  • Proactive demeanor and high sense of urgency
  • Excellent communication skills; both oral and written
  • Good analytical and decision making skills
  • A quick study with the ability to recognize and engage in opportunities that will lead to improvements
  • MRP skills and some basic accounting knowledge a plus
  • Global business skills a positive (Muth transacts with ~20 countries)
