New Product Development (NPD) Sourcing Buyer

Position Summary/Objective:
The New Product Development (NPD) Sourcing Buyer will serve as a key liaison between Engineering, Program Management, and the Supply Chain team to source materials and components for new product introductions. This role will drive supplier selection, cost negotiations, and sourcing strategies to ensure product launches are executed on time, within budget, and to quality standards.
Primary Duties/Responsibilities:
- Identify, evaluate, and select suppliers who can meet the specific needs of the new products.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams during early-stage product development to understand sourcing needs and timelines.
- Negotiate pricing, lead times, and contract terms with suppliers to meet cost targets and delivery requirements.
- Manage the RFQ process to solicit competitive bids from suppliers, as well as handle tactical purchasing activities, including expediting materials, managing past due and open POs, and resolving purchasing/accounting issues. Ensure timely material delivery to meet program milestones.
- Ensure timely sourcing of components and materials needed for new product builds.
- Support Program Management to ensure timely development of new programs with customers.
- Support the Quality team in the PPAP process and coordinate with production buyers to transfer purchasing responsibilities once PPAP approval is obtained.
- Track and manage sourcing activities throughout project phases.
- Track part release statuses and collaborate with Engineering to manage ongoing changes.
- Maintain supplier relationships and monitor supplier performance for quality, delivery, and responsiveness.
- Assist in developing and implementing strategic sourcing initiatives aligned with company goals.
- Effectively identify and track cost reductions, as well as expedites and other unforeseen costs.
- Work closely with quality and engineering teams to qualify new suppliers and materials.
- Demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and communication skills in department, inter-department, and supplier meetings.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable regulations.
Education, and/or Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 2+ years of relevant experience in sourcing or supply chain within a comparable environment.
- Strong negotiation, communication, and supplier management skills.
- Knowledge of product development lifecycle and engineering change processes.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite as well as capability to learn our PLEX MRP software.
- Ability to manage shifting deadlines and priorities in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Global business skills a plus. (Muth transacts with ~20 countries).
- Willingness to travel up to 10% as required.
